Scott Gray to present at ISNworks workshop August 26-27, 2011 Knoxville, TN

In ISN Speakers, notes, presenters on May 24, 2011 at 8:52 pm

The 5 Things that I’ve learned from 60 Years of Living on this Mud Ball we call Earth

I cover the 5 things that I feel are most important to have a successful and productive life.  These are the following:

  •  Know who you are and what your lone peak is.  Get in touch with your values and write a mission statement to articulate this and keep it handle and current
  • Create Life Goals: We all generally have work goals and some personal goals, but few of us have life goals.  It’s important that we know where we are going and make plans to get there.
  • Be a lifelong Learner:  It’s important that we are always challenging ourselves to expand our knowledge and challenge ourselves, so continue to grow.  It’s too easy to get stuck in a rut and stay on the safe path of life.
  • Sharpen the Saw: This is from the 7 Habits book and it’s very important that we take care of ourselves.  This is part of the FOCUS seminars that I teach
  • Listen to Your Intuition: we have a tendency to discount or ignore our intuition or sixth sense.  If we take time to listen and allow it to help guide it, we will be more confident and gain greater self-esteem by knowing that we are being guided by our inner self.

I use 5 items to represent the fingers on the hand.  This is concluded with the last item that I call the palm, since it holds all of the fingers, i.e. other items together.

The last item is to be happy in your life.  This is what holds our life together.  If we aren’t happy, then one or more of the other items are hurting or out of balance.  We need to look at these to see where we are out of balance in our life.

About Scott Gray:

I received my MBA in Finance from the University of Manchester and have been certified to teach Focus: Achieving Your Highest Priorities and Leadership: Great Teams, Great Leaders, Great Results for Franklin Covey. Along with this, I have been trained to teach Focus for Outlook.  I teach these classes for my company and have been a guest presenter for our companies.   I’m also a Certified Trainer for Fred Pryor Career Track Seminars and teach seminars on such topics as Criticism and Discipline for Managers; Finance and Accounting for non-Finance People and similar topics.

I am also a trained Personal Coach by Legacy Learning, since 2005.  I mainly work with clients who are either going through life changes, like divorce or job changes or are considering making a change in their career.

I have my CPCU and AMIM designations and have worked in Property and Casualty Insurance for over 25 years.  I began my career as an underwriter for Hartford Insurance Company.  After this, I spent several years working for several International Brokers as an Account Manger before going into Risk Management.  I provided underwriting guidance for both Marine and Inland Marine programs.  I also managed the exposures written in the companies captive insurance companies.

have been a leader in business for over 10 years.  I am currently teaching International Business at a local university.  This has taught me how to organize and prepare an effective learning experience for the students in my class.  The classes include both younger students and adult learners returning to continue their education.  My experience and research provides me with the tools to augment the material that we are covering.

I lead two teams focused on both sales and service.  This has given me a great deal of experience in creating a focused customer service and retention program.  Working with my team, we develop annual financial and sales plans to meet our annual business plans.  This has provided me with the knowledge to facilitate training in customer service and sales leadership.  We also spend a great deal of our time working on projects utilizing the 6 Sigma methodology.  This has given me the tools to lay out projects and understand how to organize and break them down into the essential components.

I have been training in Martial Arts for over 15 years and have my 5th Dan in Taekwondo and 1st Dan in Kung Fu San Soo.  I’m also studying Goju Shorei weapons.  I’m an instructor with Unlimited Martial Arts teaching children and adult classes.  This has given me the ability to learn to be flexible in my teaching style while creating a challenging and high energy environment.
